The Local History Museum of the Derghachi Municipal District was established based on a resolution from the administration of the Saratov region dated February 12, 2013. This resolution annulled previous orders from 1994 and 1995 regarding the creation of the museum.

The museum world is rich and diverse. The museum reflects the cultural aspirations of the past and present, helping to address current issues by relying on the experience of predecessors. Its task is to preserve cultural heritage for future generations and to open it up for contemporaries. Museum work is connected with science, education, and culture as a whole. The museum documents processes and phenomena of nature and society, forms, preserves, and studies collections, using them for scientific and educational purposes.

The Derghachi Local History Museum began to take shape in 1994 and opened on May 7, 1995, in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Great Victory. Its creator and first director was Elena Vsevolodovna Cherkasova.

Elena Vsevolodovna recalls: "In 1994-1995, we relied on the memories of local old-timers. At that time, there were still compatriots born in 1906 and 1920 who lovingly and emotionally shared stories about their relatives, neighbors, the occupations of the population, schools, craftsmen, benefactors, two-story houses destroyed in the 1930s, folk legends, famine, wars, and repressions."

The old-timers shared both real facts and stories that are hard to believe. More than two hundred people left their memories, becoming part of the museum's creation. Elena Vsevolodovna laid not only the material but also the spiritual foundation for the museum's work, including the style of communication with visitors and a respectful attitude towards historical facts.

The first exhibition of the museum was dedicated to the theme "Derghachi Residents on the Front and in the Rear."

Currently, the museum has five exhibitions: "Geological Past of the Saratov Zavolzhye," "Archaeological Finds in the Territory of the Derghachi District," "History of the Settlement of Our Region," "Family History, History of Russia," and "The Life of Derghachi Residents in the Early 20th Century."

The first exhibition includes fossils and soils characteristic of the seabed, which the area once was. The second is related to the log culture, with finds dating back approximately 3,500 years. At that time, there were many settlements along the banks of the Altaty River and its tributaries.

The exhibition on the settlement of the region tells about the royal decrees of Catherine II from 1785 and 1788. The settlement occurred in several stages, and only the most resilient settlers remained.

The exhibition "Family History, History of Russia" is dedicated to the genealogy of the Livinov family.

In the early 20th century, Derghachi was a wealthy village with craftsmen and merchants, which is reflected in the exhibition "The Life of Derghachi Residents in the Early 20th Century."

Temporary exhibitions are also held, dedicated to various themes and memorable dates.

The main audience of the museum is children. We collaborate with kindergartens and schools, conducting summer activities for children at health improvement sites.

The topics of excursions are diverse, and children find everything interesting if presented accessibly and engagingly. It is especially memorable when they can hold ancient items in their hands.

Each visitor finds something interesting in the museum: ancient history, archaeology, objects of living nature. Boys especially like the section with weapons, while all children enjoy the model of a peasant homestead. Adults happily study the information and old photographs.

The main form of the museum's work is excursions. The same theme can be offered to both children and adults, which is the task of the guide.

The museum's storage facility contains a variety of exhibits, allowing for the supplementation of existing exhibitions and the creation of new displays, ensuring the systematization and preservation of museum items.
