The local history museum in Kopeysk, founded in 1967, plays an important role in the moral and patriotic education of the city's youth. The museum staff, sharing knowledge about the heroic past of the country, days of military glory, and significant dates, help to instill ideals of selfless service to the Motherland in teenagers and young people.

Museum specialists, relying on the methodological developments of T. E. Karachevtseva, conduct theoretical and practical research. They study the unique archives of Luka Afanasyevich Kozlov, Mikhail Grigorievich Semenov, and Ivan Ivanovich Redikortsev, finding important documents that reveal the history and development of the region. These materials are planned to be made available to the general public.

The museum hosts regional scientific and practical conferences annually, where concepts and issues from various fields of science are discussed. This contributes to the creation of a new type of integrated institution.

The museum actively develops museum pedagogy. Since 1999, the program "I, a Kopeysk resident" has been successfully implemented, covering children aged 6 to 18. A total of 10,546 people have participated. Popular methods for studying the history and culture of the native land, as well as fostering patriotism, have included quizzes and competitions such as "My Family Tree," "Your City, Your Home," "Green Planet," and "Young Guide."

The institution is actively engaged in publishing activities, releasing catalogs, brochures, booklets, posters, calendars, and collections containing extensive information about the city and region. The "Museum Bulletin of the Kopeysk Urban District," implemented with the support of the local history council, has become the museum's calling card.

The museum's work is based on the recommendations of the Ministries of Culture of Russia and the Chelyabinsk region. An example is the "Night of the Arts," timed to coincide with the Day of National Unity, which became a bright event for the residents of Kopeysk thanks to the efforts of passionate museum workers.

The museum is one of the leading institutions in the region. As of July 2015, its collections numbered 26,539 items, of which 7,950 belong to the main fund.
