The granite mountain, known to the people as "Pugachev's Kopany", is located on the banks of the Bolshaya Satka River, 18 km from Satka, at the entrance to the village of Magnitka. This natural and historical monument is said to be connected to the events of the Peasant War of 1773-1775. It is believed that the troops of Yemelyan Pugachev crossed the river here, and for this purpose, a road known as the kopanka was laid.

After the battle near Satka on June 3, 1774, in which Pugachev's troops and the Izium hussars under the command of Ivan Mikhelson participated, Pugachev retreated along the Old Kazan Road. According to legend, a cliff that steeply descended into the waters of the river blocked the way for his army. Pugachev ordered the cliff to be blown up to create a path, and then blew it up again to delay his pursuers.

The name "Kopany" is related to the actions of laying the path. Locals refer to this cliff as Pugachev's kopanya. Although there are no documentary confirmations of these events, folk legends and the accounts of local historians support this version. Subsequently, a road was laid to the forestry enterprise at the site of the kopany. This area also features picturesque cliffs of the Kopan massif, consisting of gabbro, anorthosites, and other rocks, as well as the Kopan deposit of ilmenite and titanomagnetite ores.
