The only news about the construction of the cathedral bell tower has reached us thanks to Ananias Fedorov, who mentioned it in his "Historical Collection about the Sacred City of Suzdal." This document states that the bell tower was built in 1635 during the archbishop Serapion's tenure, under the reign of Tsar Mikhail Fedorovich.

On the second tier of the bell tower, there are two altars: one dedicated to the Annunciation, and the other to the holy royal daughter Theodosia.

The bell tower of the Nativity of the Mother of God Cathedral is an impressive structure demonstrating the craftsmanship of Suzdal architects, who managed to combine two different time periods into a single harmonious architectural work.

According to preserved sources, a fire occurred in the cathedral in 1719. Due to a lack of funds for restoration, the burned parts were dismantled, and a massive stone wall was erected in their place, separating the cathedral courtyard from the street.

Recently conducted research allowed for the development of a restoration project, which was carried out with the support of the restoration section of Suzdal's Vladimir workshops. As a result of the work, the transitions and gallery were fully restored under the guidance of A. Varganov.

In mid-1967, craftsmen from Suzdal, K. M. Chicherin and A. I. Tikhonov, restored the lost bell clock with chimes, which struck not only the hours but also the quarter hours and minutes.

The cathedral bell tower is part of the Vladimir-Suzdal Museum-Reserve and houses a unique monument of ancient Russian art from the late 17th century, the Jordanian canopy. This tall canopy, resembling a five-domed church on four pillars, stands 8.5 meters high and is associated with Metropolitan Hilarion. The canopy is painted with tempera and decorated with floral ornamentation. Every year, it was assembled for the Epiphany celebration, and during the rest of the time, it was kept disassembled.

Today, the bell tower is fully restored and is an integral part of the Suzdal Kremlin.
