Bell Tower of the Ferapontovo-Belozersky Monastery

Фото 1
The ensemble of the former Ferapontovo Monastery, a monument of history and culture of federal significance, is located in the village of Ferapontovo in the Kirillovsky district. In 2000, the monastery was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The three-tiered bell tower, built in 1680, serves as the main entrance to the architectural complex. Inside, there is a tall square tent where an ancient clock mechanism from 1635 is kept, restored in 1990 by master Yu.P. Platonov, who also restored the bells.

Currently, restoration is being carried out more actively thanks to funding from a special presidential fund. Services are held in the gate church at the Holy Gates, which was once the private chapel of Nikon, as well as in a new wooden church outside the monastery, consecrated in honor of St. Nilus of Sora. The other buildings of the complex function as a museum.
