The church dedicated to the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God was built in the village of Novodevichye in 1794 and reached a height of 37 meters. In Russia, churches were often built collectively, and a significant amount of funds was required for the construction of the Kazan church. The main contribution came from Countess Anna Alexeyevna Orlova, and donations were also collected from residents of nearby villages. Locals recall that beautiful brick towers with windows made of colored glass were located at the corners of the church fence.

The church stood for about one and a half centuries, but it was destroyed in 1933. After the construction of the Zhiguli Kuibyshev Hydroelectric Power Station in 1957, the site where the church stood was submerged.

In 2002, a prayer house dedicated to the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God was opened in the building of the former agricultural machinery office. On November 10, 2012, the cross and the site for the construction of a new church in honor of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God were consecrated.
