Kazan Skete in Akinshino

Фото 1
The Holy Kazan Spring is located in the forest, in the area of Akinshino Bogorodskoye, 2.4 km northwest of the village of Ramenye in the Vyaznikovsky District of Vladimir Oblast. At the foot of the hill, on top of which stands the Church of the Most Holy Mother of God of Kazan on the left bank of the Tara River, cold springs flow. The history of this holy place is quite interesting.

In 1666, the lands passed from the Romodanov family to Princess Ulyana Ivanovna Odoevskaya, and in 1779, the princes Kurakins were first mentioned on the vestments of local icons. Ekaterina Dmitrievna Kurakina visited Akinshino in 1812, fleeing from the French. After Ekaterina Dmitrievna, the village passed to her nephew D.P. Priklonkov, who generously donated to the Kazan Church and in 1843 opened a public school known as Dmitrievskaya School. The Kazan Church served not only as a religious but also as a cultural and educational center for the village. The clergy cared for the souls of the parishioners, taught them literacy, and helped the needy and orphans, welcoming pilgrims. People sought out this blessed land for healing both spiritual and physical. The parish of the Church of the Most Holy Mother of God of Kazan included 9 settlements.

In 1932, the church faced tragedy: the bells were cast down, the church was closed, and for many years the life of the village came to a standstill.

In 2001, on this land rich in traditions and legends, the Holy Kazan Skete of the Epiphany Monastery was opened. It has long been known that the Akinshino Holy Bath restored health and strength. Legends about the mysterious white stone, Alatyr, in the foundation of the church and the healing spring have been preserved. The water of the spring is unique, rich in minerals, pure and cold, and has long been considered holy.

There is a legend that Saint Reverend Michael the Venerable, known for his spiritual feats in the first half of the 14th century, visited this spring for bathing. Now, at the site of the village of Akinshino, there remain the Church of the Mother of God of Kazan and the Holy Kazan Skete. This holy place is located 5 km from the village of Mstyora, known for its icon painting and lacquer miniatures. The residents of the skete have built residential buildings and cells, and are restoring the church. Through the efforts of the brotherhood of the Holy Kazan Skete, the Holy Spring has been restored and improved, a bathing area with separate pools for washing has been equipped, and the territory has been paved with tiles. A wide bridge leads to the spring across the stream, and the bathing area has a common pool, deep enough, divided by a partition into two parts.
