Kazan Church (village of Treskino, Penza Region)

Фото 1
The church, dedicated to the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God, was built in 1819 with funds from the landowner Iona Ilyich Ogarev and represents an interesting example of architecture in the classical style. It is a tall two-light octagon with a faceted dome. The northern and southern facades are adorned with four-column porticos with triangular pediments. On the eastern side, a semicircular apse adjoins the church, while on the western side, there is a small refectory connected to a three-tiered square bell tower. The lower tier of the bell tower also features porticos. The church has windows of various shapes: the two upper tiers of the bell tower are decorated with three-part windows with columns; in the upper part of the church, the windows are round and semicircular, while lunette windows are located at the bottom. The tympana of the pediments are highlighted with sculptural images of the 'all-seeing eye' with radiating rays. The walls of the church are rusticated, and the cornice is decorated with large dry biscuits. The church was closed in 1937, but it has now reopened and is undergoing restoration.
