Kazan Church (village Podgornoye, Penza region)

Фото 1
The church in honor of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God in the village of Svinuha (now Podgornoye) began construction in 1871 with funds from Prince Alexei Grigorievich Obolensky. That same year, the brickwork was completed to the window level, but construction halted due to a lack of funds. In 1830, despite the fact that the refectory and bell tower had not yet been built, the main part of the church was plastered on the inside and consecrated. That same year, engineer Prussak developed a project for the addition of the refectory and bell tower, taking into account changes in the appearance of the church. The construction of the church was completed in 1838. In 1893, an altar in the refectory was consecrated in honor of Archangel Michael.

In the 1930s, the church was closed. To this day, the octagonal drum of the church, which was previously covered by a dome and topped with a cupola, has not survived.
