Over the past two centuries, world architecture has been enriched by many outstanding architects, among whom Vasily Antonovich Kosiakov stands out for creating a number of magnificent churches. One of the most beautiful cathedrals in Russia is the Kazan Church in the Resurrection Novodevichy Monastery in St. Petersburg, built in the early last century according to Kosiakov's design.

The first Kazan church on the monastery grounds appeared in the first half of the 19th century. It was wooden but stood on a stone foundation and was used for the burial of the inhabitants. Over time, the need for a new stone church arose, and the project was entrusted to Vasily Antonovich Kosiakov. Construction began in 1908 and was completed in 1914. The church survived two world wars, several revolutions, and closure, but it has endured and continues to function.

The new Kazan church, made of stone, has five domes and is an example of the Neo-Byzantine style, impressing with its originality. The cathedral has three parishes, consecrated in honor of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God, the State Icon of the Mother of God, and Saint Seraphim of Sarov. They are adorned with magnificent frescoes, and the roof is covered with tiles. The external appearance of the church, with its architectural ornaments, resembles the Cathedral of Saint Sophia in Constantinople, making it one of the most beautiful churches in Russia.
