Next to the pergola is Catherine II's Stone Bench, carved from a glacial boulder. On its surface, one can discern a partially erased inscription: "Built in 1762 for the great sovereign Empress Catherine Alexeyevna in her own garden."
This spot in the park has a unique atmosphere of antiquity and mystique. Perhaps this impression is created by the dense trees surrounding the bench and the fir tree that has grown directly from the boulder.
The memorial bench serves as a reminder of the time when the majestic ensemble of Oranienbaum and the Empress's private dacha were being created.
