The history of the museum spans over a hundred years. In 1911, thanks to the initiative of the governor of the Kamchatka region, V. V. Perfilev, and the local intelligentsia, the regional scientific and industrial museum was founded. It was housed in the building of the governor's office, which was one of the key structures of that time. This two-story wooden house is an example of Russian architecture of the Art Nouveau era, designed by the regional architect K. A. Zaranek, who also oversaw its construction.

The first exhibits of the museum were donated by travelers and scientists exploring Kamchatka in the early 20th century. After several relocations, in 1982 the Kamchatka Regional Local History Museum settled once again in the building of the former governor's office, where it remains to this day.

The museum houses over 120,000 unique items related to the history of the region. The collections include archaeological finds, ethnographic materials of the indigenous peoples of Kamchatka, rare books from the 17th to the 21st centuries, works by local artists, as well as memorial and archival funds.

Today, the museum is engaged in the collection, preservation, study, and publication of material monuments of the history and culture of Kamchatka, contributing to the preservation of the region's cultural heritage.
