In the spring of 1648, by the order of the famous colonel of the Zaporizhian Host, Matviy Hladkyi, the residents of Mirgorod began the construction of an Orthodox church in honor of their liberation from Polish-Lithuanian rule. The work progressed harmoniously. A year later, the colonel of Mirgorod wrote to Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich, informing him that a new church had been laid in Mirgorod, and its construction would soon be completed with the help of Christ the Savior. This was noted by the well-known local historian Herasymenko. As a result of this letter, the Russian tsar permitted the purchase of church utensils and decorations in Moscow. The construction was soon completed, the church was consecrated, and it was named the Cathedral of the Assumption, becoming the main church of Mirgorod.

The first wooden church burned down. In the early 1880s, its restoration began, with A.F. Zubkovskyi participating, the father of the founder of the Mirgorod resort, I.A. Zubkovskyi. The work was completed in 1887, two years after the benefactor's death. Services were held until 1937, after which the church was closed until 1941. Services resumed in 1941 and continued until 1957.

The year 1957 was tragic for the Holy Assumption Church: it was closed again, the bell tower and domes were destroyed, the iconostasis was dismantled, partially preserved in the museum of the Mirgorod ceramic technical school, and the unique frescoes and paintings were painted over or destroyed. The church was used as a warehouse for the mineral water plant and later as a pump room for resort visitors.

Only in 1990, at the request of the believers, Mirgorodkurort JSC transferred the building of the church to the religious community. After repairs and renovations funded by the donations of Mirgorod residents, the church was reopened and consecrated on December 30 of the same year.

The Holy Assumption Church is located in the picturesque area of the Mirgorod resort. Since 1990, it has been continuously improved. First, the bell tower was restored, and bells were purchased at the initiative of the church's rector, Archpriest Ioann Sozanskyi, with the support of the director of Mirgorodkurort JSC, Mr. Melnyk, the chairman of the regional state administration, N.I. Zaludyak, and others, as evidenced by the inscription at the entrance to the church. With the donations of parishioners, the main carved wooden iconostasis was purchased, and two smaller ones were ordered. For a year and a half, artist Volodymyr Tkachenko worked on the church's paintings, completing them in December 2003.
