The church was founded in 1735 on the site of an old wooden Assumption church. In literature, it is referred to as the Trinity Church, with various founding dates: 1689, 1738, 1747, and 1749. The building is designed in the style of Ukrainian Baroque, constructed of brick and plastered. It has a rectangular shape with four supporting pillars that divide it into three naves and support a system of semi-circular vaults and three domes on low drums, arranged along the longitudinal axis. The central drum is round, while the side ones are oval, adorned with pear-shaped tops with decorative lanterns.

On the eastern side, the building is adjoined by three apses: the central one is pentagonal on the outside and semi-circular on the inside, equal in height to the main volume, while the northern and southern ones are low, quarter-circle shaped, corresponding in width to the side naves. To the west, a rectangular covered porch is attached to the main entrance, and to the north and south, square vestibules of the side entrances with gabled roofs. The porch is decorated with a small dome.

The facades of the building are decorated with pilasters and an entablature, ending with paired triangular pediments. The southern and northern sides are adorned with pilasters and niches for paintings, framed with moldings. The main volume of the building is two-light, with rectangular and semi-circular window openings, in the upper tier decorated with triangular architraves. Beneath the cathedral is a basement with semi-circular vaults. In the interior, in the western part of the side naves, there are choirs supported by arches and connected by a narrow wooden passage across the main nave. Stairs leading to the choirs are built into the northern and southern walls. The interior is expressive, with preserved fragments of frescoes.

The architectural solution of the cathedral combines features of ancient Russian three-nave central-dome and Ukrainian three-masted three-dome structures. The building was restored in 1970 and 1971.

This monument is one of the original works of Ukrainian Baroque from the 18th century.
