The city of Uvarovo was founded in 1699 by Russian Cossacks who stationed their guard troops on the right bank of the Vorona River. The settlement was named after a local hunter and beekeeper, P.S. Uvarov. In 1840, with funds from the parishioners, a stone church of the Nativity of Christ was built with a chapel of Archangel Michael, replacing an old wooden church. The architecture of the temple is in the style of late classicism and includes a square base with a massive light rotunda topped with a helmet-shaped dome and an onion-shaped spire. The four-column porticos with triangular pediments on opposite facades and brick patterns give the building a majestic and austere appearance. The exterior of the church is plastered and painted in sky blue and white colors. In 1937, the church was closed and desecrated, and the bell tower was destroyed. In 1991, it was returned to the faithful. In 2013, the church received the status of the cathedral of the Uvarovo diocese. Today, the Nativity of Christ Church is operational and serves as the main attraction and pride of the city's residents.
