The Alexander Nevsky church was built in 1908. Its name is associated with the miraculous rescue of Emperor Alexander III and his family during the crash of the imperial train near the Borki station on October 18 (30), 1888. In honor of this event, churches dedicated to Saint Prince Alexander Nevsky, who was considered the heavenly patron of the emperor, were erected throughout Russia.

The first elder of the church was Alexey Vasilyevich Emelyanov, whose burial site is located to the left of the entrance. To the right is buried the main benefactor Mikhail Ivanovich Vinnikov.

The church has a central altar dedicated to Alexander Nevsky and a side altar in honor of Saint Onuphrius of Stary Oskol. It is a pillarless, cross-shaped structure with a three-tiered bell tower and three semicircular apses.

In the late 1930s, the church was closed by the Soviet authorities, but in October 1945, after the war, it was reopened, and the spiritual life of the parish resumed.

Until 1995, the church remained an ordinary parish church, distinguished only by the fact that since 1955, the archpriests of the Stary Oskol district served here. On September 1, 1995, with the re-establishment of the Belgorod and Stary Oskol diocese, the church became the second cathedral.

Since October 1, 1994, a Sunday school for children and courses for adults have been operating at the church. In 1998, the Sunday school was transformed into an Orthodox gymnasium, and in September 2009, the Orthodox Youth Center 'Nevsky' was opened.

The church is an architectural monument that combines elements of Greek and Russian styles.

In 2006, a canopy was built over the well on the church grounds with funds from Ivan Afanasyevich Gusarev in memory of his sons, Vasily and Sergey.

The iconostasis of the cathedral is made of carved wood with gilding and consists of three tiers. The upper tier features a single icon. The arched finishes and decor of the iconostasis correspond to the architectural style of the cathedral.

By Easter 1999, masters from the Trinity-Sergius Lavra completed the writing of new canonical icons for the iconostasis in the style of Andrei Rublev.
