"Baba Katya's Hut" is a house that has remained unchanged for 350 years.

To immerse yourself in the past, you don't need to wait for the invention of a time machine. Unique historical places are nearby, but we often overlook them. For example, in the village of Koptelovo in the Sverdlovsk region, there is a true relic: a house that has preserved its original form since the mid-17th century. Today, this building is known as "Baba Katya's Hut," and it belonged to a local resident, Ekaterina Kalinina.

In 1971, the 93-year-old grandmother decided to move in with relatives and sold the house for 200 rubles. The structure was purchased by Alexander Potoskuev, the organizer of the village museum, who turned the 350-year-old hut into an architectural exhibit. However, the roof had to be replaced as it was severely rotted.

This amazing house was built without a single nail, and the original interior has been preserved: wooden floors, a pitched roof made of whole logs, sleeping platforms, a clay stove, and a red corner with icons. The entrance hall, the passage from the street into the hut, remains untouched. If you look closely, you can notice that all the entrances are quite low for an adult, which helped retain heat and made those entering involuntarily bow to the icons and the hosts. According to various sources, several families once lived here, a total of 28 people, and they all fit perfectly. There was a separate working corner for men and a place for tools.

Household items also pique interest, the purpose of which is not clear to every modern person. For example, a rubel, a peasant's washboard stands out. But what is a podzolnik and what is it for? In the past, such huts were lit by oil lamps, wooden splinters, and ash and soot fell into the podzolnik to avoid dirtying the floor. Fortunately, all of this has been preserved and serves as a monument to ancient Russian architecture and old interiors.
