The museum has been engaged in scientific and educational activities for 70 years, preserving, studying, and popularizing monuments of history, as well as material and spiritual culture. The main collection of the museum contains 4,859 items, the scientific auxiliary collection has 5,003 items, and the library's book collection consists of 3,038 items. The museum's exhibition has been completely updated twice, with new materials and exhibits introduced, and modern museum equipment and technical means applied.

Many exhibits were restored thanks to the programs "Culture of the Russian North" and "Homeland of Lomonosov." In the period from 2008 to 2009, 32 items were restored, and 9 are currently in the process of restoration. The painting "Life of a Peasant Family in the 18th Century" by artist A.Ya. Rumyantsev, which is the museum's key exhibit, has returned from the Grabar Restoration Workshops. The case of a unique clock from 1755, furniture from the 18th-19th centuries, household items, headgear, books, and works of art were also restored. The model of Lomonosov's chemical laboratory, a favorite among young visitors, has also been updated.

The museum building, constructed in 1892, is surrounded by three extensions, the openings of which were timed to the anniversary dates of M.V. Lomonosov. For the 290th anniversary of the scientist, an exhibition hall was opened with two permanent exhibitions: "Kholmogory Carved Bone" and "Paintings by Northern Artists." For the 300th anniversary of Mikhail Vasilyevich, another hall for temporary exhibitions and a conference room were opened, where events dedicated to Lomonosov are held, and conditions for independent study of his life and scientific legacy were created. The museum's funds and library are also located in this space.

Changes have occurred on the museum's territory, in the Lomonosov estate: the pond of Mikhail Vasilyevich's father, Vasily Dorofeevich, was expanded, the banks were reinforced with stone, new plants appeared in the garden, and tourists can relax in a gazebo.

Over the past 70 years, nearly 650,000 people have visited the museum, for whom more than 18,000 excursions have been conducted. Annually, during the days of Lomonosov readings and the scientist's memorial days, many guests come to his homeland.

The Lomonosov Historical and Memorial Museum has received awards, honorary certificates, and diplomas. In 2005, it became a laureate of the M.V. Lomonosov Prize from the administration of the Kholmogory district. However, the best reward for the museum staff remains the wonderful feedback from visitors.
