The museum complex "Bobriki" is located in the historical part of the city of Donskoy, on the site of the ancient village of Bobriki. The history of this village is closely linked to the names of the reforming tsar Peter I and the great empress Catherine II.

By the decree of Peter I, in 1701 and 1720, the Ivanovsky Canal was built in the upper reaches of the Don, a unique hydraulic engineering structure from the early 18th century. One section of the museum exhibition is dedicated to this period of history.

With the rise of Catherine II to power, a new era began for the village of Bobriki. In 1763, the empress established a manor here for her illegitimate son Alexei Bobrinsky, choosing a picturesque location on a hill.

Today, the "Bobriki" estate is the central tourist attraction of the museum complex. The architectural ensemble, created by the talented architect I. E. Starov, has significant historical and artistic value. Visitors can stroll through the grounds of the former estate, visit monuments of history and culture of federal significance, the Church of the Holy Transfiguration, and the family burial vault of the Bobrinsky counts.
