Ovstug is the estate of the noble Tyutchev family, located on the banks of the Ovstuzhenka River in the village of the same name in the Zhukovsky District of Bryansk Oblast. The famous poet Fyodor Tyutchev was born here in 1803.

In the 1770s, second major Nikolai Andreyevich Tyutchev, the owner of the Znamenskoye estate near Myshkin, received the Ovstug lands as a dowry from his wife Pelageya Denisovna, born Panyutina. After moving from Yaroslavl Province to Oryol, he established a manor house in Ovstug with the Assumption Church, built in 1778.

His son Ivan Nikolaevich, the poet's father, who is buried near the Assumption Church, commissioned architect G.F. Gerasimov in the early 1840s to design a more spacious manor house in the style of late classicism. By 1846, the construction was completed. The poet wrote to his mother that the new house turned out very well, and the view from the garden side was especially beautiful.

After the reforms, the estate, like many other noble possessions, fell into decline. Almost all the buildings from the Tyutchev era, including the manor house, were dismantled for building materials in the early 20th century. The remaining structures were destroyed during the years of collectivization and World War II.

The museum exhibition was opened in 1957, initially in the building of the village school, and now includes several thousand authentic exhibits. Since 1961, Tyutchev Poetry Festivals have been held in Ovstug. In connection with this, a bust of the poet was installed at the site of the estate, and in 1978, a monument was erected near the pond, created according to the project of Alexei Kobilinets. To house the main museum exhibition, the manor house was recreated by the project of V.N. Gorodkov by 1985, and the F.I. Tyutchev Museum was ceremoniously opened there in 1986.

From 2000 to 2003, the Bavarian company 'Knauf' financed the next stage of restoration work, including the reconstruction of the guest wing from the early 19th century and the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

The estate complex also includes mills, a gazebo on the island, linden alleys, and a village school established by the poet's daughter.
