The municipal institution "Historical and Local Lore Museum with A. Y. Krems Museum Room" includes five museums: the historical and local lore museum with A. Y. Krems museum room, the geological collection museum, the Earth nature museum, the history museum of the settlement of Vodny, and the Yaregsky mines museum. The collections contain extensive documentary materials on the history of the city, the development of the oil and gas industry in the region, as well as items of traditional Komi life, archaeological and natural science collections, and much more.
The Ukhta Historical and Local Lore Museum first opened to visitors on August 22, 1981. It is located in one of the oldest wooden buildings in the city, where in 1935 and the 1950s, the honorary drilling master and one of the pioneers of Ukhta, I. I. Kosolapkin, lived.
Local historians and honorary citizens of Ukhta actively contributed to the creation of the first exhibitions. They shared their ideas for decorating the halls and provided personal materials that became the basis for forming the museum's collection.
