The village of Alexeyevka in the Khvalynsky district of the Saratov region has a historical connection with the name of the righteous saint John of Kronstadt. In 1894, he visited this place while traveling along the Volga on the steamboat "Otvazhny" and served in the church of St. Sergius of Radonezh. The wooden church in Alexeyevka was built in 1778 by the efforts of local residents and was rebuilt in 1870. Since 1873, a zemstvo school operated in the village.

In 1930, the bells were removed from the Sergiev church, and in 1931 the building was repurposed as a kindergarten, after which the church was destroyed.

In 2006, the construction of a new temple complex began. In February 2008, it was recognized as a dependency of the Holy Alexiev Women's Monastery from Saratov. On December 27, 2008, Bishop Longin of Saratov and Volsk conducted the Great Consecration of the new church dedicated to the righteous saint John of Kronstadt.

On June 14, 2013, on the feast day of the righteous saint John of Kronstadt, a women's monastery was opened in the village of Alexeyevka in his honor. On the same day, nun Elikonida Lysenko was elevated to the rank of abbess during the Divine Liturgy, according to the decision of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church from March 12, 2013.
