Friedensreich Hundertwasser, whose real name was Friedrich Stowasser, was born on December 15, 1928, in Vienna, Austria. He became a renowned Austrian architect and painter. In the winter of 1949, Stowasser changed his surname. His pseudonym originated from the German translation of the first part of his surname, resembling the Russian word "hundred" (Hundert). The influence of his travels to Russia manifested in his work through onion domes reminiscent of St. Basil's Cathedral in Moscow. The artist passed away on February 19, 2000, from a heart attack aboard the ocean liner "Queen Elizabeth 2" in the Pacific Ocean. According to his will, he was buried in New Zealand on his own plot in the "Garden of Happy Dead."
