Vasily Pavlovich Khudoyarov, a Russian artist and master of portrait painting, is also known for his works in the genre of everyday life. He was born in Nizhny Tagil in 1829 (according to other sources, in 1831) into a family of serf craftsmen and artists who engaged in lacquer painting and fulfilled orders for Nikita Akinkhievich Demidov in his estates in Moscow and St. Petersburg. After gaining his freedom, he entered the Academy of Arts in 1858, where he studied in the historical painting class under the guidance of Professor Alexei Tarasovich Markov. For his coursework at the Academy, Khudoyarov was awarded two small silver medals in 1862 and two large ones in 1863. In 1865, he graduated from the Academy, receiving the title of class artist of the third degree. After completing his studies, Khudoyarov created portraits, landscapes, and genre paintings, as well as addressing historical and biblical themes. In the following years, he actively worked, honing his skills and participating in academic exhibitions. Khudoyarov also fulfilled orders for the imperial family. The main directions in his work were everyday portraits and rural landscapes.
