Shiryayevo Parish Temple Complex

Фото 1
On the banks of the Merya River lies the village of Shiryayevo. Here, at different times, two churches were built: a stone church in honor of Saint Nicholas with a stone bell tower, constructed in 1828 with funds from parishioners, and a wooden Ascension church, erected in 1760 and reconstructed in 1894 and 1895, with a stone fence. The cemetery was located 223 fathoms from the church and was surrounded by a wooden fence. The Ascension church had three altars: the Ascension of the Lord, the Dormition of the Mother of God, and Saints Flora and Lavra. The locally venerated icon was the icon of Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker. Currently, both churches are in a semi-ruined state. The situation is worsened by the fact that just three meters from the Nicholas church runs a logging road.
