One of the most picturesque religious complexes in Soligalich unites churches from different eras and plays a key role in shaping the appearance of the central part of the city. It is located in the Navolok area on the right bank of the Kostroma River, on a leveled site that protects the churches from spring floods.

It is believed that in the 16th century there was the Transfiguration Monastery here. The predecessors of the current churches were wooden churches from the 17th century. The first of them, the Nikolskaya Church, with a tented roof, is mentioned in documents from 1644. It was destroyed by fire and soon replaced by a new one, which also burned down in 1681. In 1686-1688, a stone church of Nicholas the Wonderworker was built in its place, consecrated in 1694. Its octagonal tented bell tower stood separately to the southwest of the church. In 1696, with the blessing of Patriarch Adrian, chapels of Florus and Laurus to the north and Cosmas and Damian to the south were added to the church. Some researchers believe that in the 17th-18th centuries, the church was surrounded by wooden galleries. In the 19th century, a brick narthex appeared in front of the western facade. The interior was painted in 1749.

The wooden Transfiguration Church has been known since 1674. By 1735, it had fallen into disrepair, and it was permitted to dismantle it. In 1821, a winter stone church of the Transfiguration with chapels of the Annunciation and Ascension was built to the south of the summer Nikolskaya Church. The church project was developed by provincial architect N. I. Metlin, and the contractor was peasant P. G. Trukhin from Nizhny Novgorod. Around 1910, the church grounds were enclosed with a brick fence with a metal grille and a one-story watchman's lodge in the northwest corner. In the 1930s, the fence was dismantled. At the same time, due to the conversion of the Nikolskaya Church into a power station, its roof and vaults were destroyed.

In the 1980s, due to uneven subsidence of the foundation, the bell tower collapsed. All remaining buildings of the complex are made of brick, the churches are plastered, and the watchman's lodge is whitewashed with lime coating.
