The Ascension Church in the village of Vozgretsovskaya, Velsky District of Arkhangelsk Oblast, was built of brick in 1793. The architectural structure is a two-light square topped with an eight-column dome vault with a small octagon and a refectory. In the first quarter of the 19th century, a two-tiered bell tower in the classical style was added to the church. In addition to the main Ascension altar, the church has the Assumption and Nicholas chapels.

Previously, the Ascension parish was called the Rostov parish after the local village and was founded in the late 14th century. In 1397, after the conquest of the Dvina and Vazhsky regions by the boyar Andrei Alberdov, Prince Fyodor Rostovsky was sent to Vels. His task was to govern this territory and protect it from the Novgorodians under the authority of Grand Duke Vasily Dmitrievich of Moscow. Prince Fyodor Rostovsky chose a village for his residence, named in his honor Rostovsky, and built a church there.

From the Rostov Ascension parish, later emerged the Christ the Savior Shadrinsky, the Resurrection Zaruchevsky, the Mother of God Nikiforovsky, the Annunciation Khozyminsky, and the Assumption Ust-Podyuzhsky parishes. In 1874, the Zaruchevsky-Rostov parish existed. By decree of the Holy Synod dated November 19, 1882, No. 5013, it was ordered to establish an independent parish at the Ascension Rostov Church of Velsky County with a clergy consisting of a rector and a psalmist.

The winter wooden Rostov Ascension Church, which has also survived to this day, was built in 1793. Both churches are abandoned, and despite their status as state monuments of history and architecture, they continue to deteriorate and fall into ruin.
