Ascension Cathedral in Voronezh

Фото 1
The Ascension Church in Voronezh, built of wood, is a remarkable example of wooden architecture. Wooden church construction is an ancient Russian tradition. The frame of the church, made in the shape of a ship, was crafted in the Arkhangelsk region. The domes are made of aspen, which over time makes them as durable as stone. The church is designed in the Novgorod architectural style.

Since February 2008, services were held in a temporary church while the main one was under construction. In August 2011, Metropolitan Sergey of Voronezh and Borisoglebsk consecrated the crosses and domes of the new Ascension Church. The first divine liturgy took place on Christmas 2012, although there was still no iconostasis at that time.
