Ascension Church in Veliky Bor

Фото 1
On the southern outskirts of the village of Veliky Bor in the Gordeevsky district of the Bryansk region, near the Gordeevka-Mirny road, stands the Ascension Church.

According to archival data, the church was built at the request of the local count Bezborodko. The church building, constructed of brick, was plastered both inside and out. Previously, its short side arms were adorned with four-columned porticoes, as well as a slightly protruding rectangular altar, culminating in a semicircular apse. The church had a small refectory with one window, adjacent to a bell tower. A profiled belt ran along the facades of the entire building at the level of the apse cornice.

Currently, the Ascension Church in Veliky Bor is no longer functioning and resembles ruins more than anything else. Only plaster cornices at the upper part of the main square and at the base of the vaults have survived from the interior decoration. Pilasters can also be seen on the southern and northern walls between the windows.
