The site for the construction of the church was donated by merchant Alexander Pavlovich Babalov. In May 1903, the construction of the church began at the corner of Ekaterininskaya and Irbitskaya streets, based on the design by A. I. Ozhyogov. The church, built in 1903 and 1910, is executed in the neo-Russian style. In 1904, the altar on the lower floor was consecrated in honor of St. Seraphim of Sarov. The parish was considered one of the largest in Perm, and the church's income exceeded 8,000 rubles.

The church building has a basilica-style three-nave structure. A small five-domed square rises above the eastern part, while a tent-like bell tower is located above the western part. The side altars are dedicated to Theodosius of Chernigov and the Saints of Perm.

In 1930, the church was closed and converted into a bread factory. In the late 1970s, the factory was shut down, and restoration of the facades began with the aim of creating an organ hall. However, the restoration process was prolonged. In 1991, the church was returned to the faithful, and a bas-relief depicting the Savior appeared above the main entrance. In 1996, the church was consecrated by the Patriarch. In April 2004, the building was adorned with architectural lighting.

The church is one of the most recognizable landmarks in Perm.
