In the archive of the Kursk Diocesan Council for the year 1920, there is a case related to the request of the clergy and the church-parish council of the Epiphany Church in the settlement of Penas, Oboyansk district. They requested permission to consecrate a new altar of the church. The document contains information about the Church of the Ascension of the Lord.

In the petition of Priest Spesivtsev to Archbishop Nazariy of Kursk and Oboyansk dated June 4, 1920, it is indicated that in 1904, a second church was founded in honor of the Ascension of the Lord in the parish of the Epiphany Church. Upon completion of construction, they requested to consecrate the new church at the end of August or the beginning of September, attaching it to the Epiphany Church without appointing a new clergy. The Archbishop left a resolution: "Let the newly built Ascension Church be attached to the Epiphany Church."

The following is reported about the church: the building is made of stone, founded on July 19, 1904, in honor of the Ascension of Christ, constructed with public funds under the supervision of diocesan architects. The construction was completed in 1919, the roof covered with iron and painted with verdigris, topped with domes and crosses. Inside, the walls are plastered with lime, the floors made of pine boards, doors and windows crafted by carpenters, and the windows protected by iron grilles. The church has a single-row iconostasis with the icon of the "Last Supper" above the royal doors, crowned with a cross. In the altar, there are an oak altar and sacrificial tables, for which there are vestments. On the sacrificial tables, there are two silver-gilded chalices, and on the altar, a silver-gilded tabernacle in a case. Behind the altar are a cross, a three-branched candlestick, and a cabinet for the sacristy. The icons on the iconostasis are painted and satisfactory. All necessary church utensils for worship are available, but there are currently no church books or bells. The church is ready for consecration provided that the liturgical books are acquired in a timely manner. Until better times, it is advisable to keep the church attached to the Epiphany Church, and services will be conducted by the priests of the Epiphany Church.

In the report of the dean of the fourth district of the Oboyansk district, Archpriest Andrei Chefranov, to Archbishop Nazariy dated August 7-20, 1920, it is reported that on July 27, the newly established attached church in honor of the Ascension of the Lord was consecrated with the participation of priests Ioann Spesivtsev, Grigoriy Yarovitskiy, and Konstantin Ugrivitskiy. During the years of Soviet power, the church suffered and needs restoration. Since 2017, the church has been undergoing reconstruction, and services are being held there.
