In the land books of I.G. Ogarev and clerk F. Yuryev for the years 1585-1586, a church is mentioned in the Koslon pogost, dedicated to the Prophet Elijah. This church, located in the Koslan pogost of the Yaren district, is also listed in the 1755 inventory book of monasteries and churches of the Veliky Ustyug diocese. In 1699, a wooden church was consecrated with an altar in honor of Saints Athanasius and Cyril of Alexandria.

Due to its dilapidation, services ceased in 1831, but it is still mentioned in 1852. In 1776 (or 1774), a new wooden church was built in the name of the Prophet Elijah, which was repaired and renovated in 1886.

In 1856, a stone church was erected with altars in honor of the Ascension of the Lord (consecrated on January 20, 1869), Saints Athanasius and Cyril, as well as Martyrs Flora and Lavra. There were also chapels: the Transfiguration chapel in Razgort, in honor of the apostles Peter and Paul and the great martyr George in Butkane, as well as in honor of the Nativity of the Virgin and Saint Basil the Great in Nizhny Vylib.

In 1788, there were 1,078 parishioners registered at the church, and in 1868, 852. During the Soviet era, the building of the Ascension Church housed a printing house. Nowadays, the church has been returned to the believers. The priest was Ioann Alexievich, who passed away in 1788, and the sexton, Boris Fedorovich, died in 1800.

On February 9, 2014, Bishop Pitirim performed the consecration of the Ascension of the Lord Church in the village of Koslan, the administrative center of the Udor district of the Republic of Komi. This ancient building was first consecrated about 160 years ago. Subsequently, when churches were closed and destroyed, it housed a printing house, prosecutor's office, police, and other institutions. Now, after a long hiatus, the church is once again open to believers and consecrated.
