The Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross in Stary Oskol, built in the early 19th century, is an architectural monument. The stone building of the church was erected in 1805, and 40 years later, chapels were added in honor of the icon of the Most Holy Theotokos "Life-Giving Spring" and Saint Mitrophan of Voronezh.

In the early 1930s, the church was closed for several months, and the bells were removed at that time. In April 1993, the bells reappeared on the bell tower.

On October 9, 2005, the 200th anniversary of the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross in the Yamskaya sloboda was celebrated. For this event, the church was renovated. In the morning, Archbishop John of Belgorod and Stary Oskol, along with the clergy of the diocese, conducted the consecration of the church and then served the first Divine Liturgy in the renovated building.

In honor of the church's 200th anniversary in 2005, Archbishop John also consecrated a chapel dedicated to the icon of the Mother of God "Life-Giving Spring."
