The Church of the Exaltation of the Life-Giving Cross became the first church built in the village of Petrovka. It is located next to the mass grave of soldiers who fell during the Great Patriotic War and serves as a symbol of eternal memory of them.

The wooden church was erected in remarkably short time, in less than nine months. On May 8, 2010, it was consecrated by Archbishop John of Belgorod and Stary Oskol.

Built from logs, the church was opened in honor of the 65th anniversary of victory in the Great Patriotic War and rises on a hill in the center of the village.
