The Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross is a large brick temple located in the center of the village of Pestunovo, about 58 kilometers northeast of the regional center.

In 1897, a brick church in the style of classicism was built in the settlement of Pestunovo. By 1907, the parish included the hamlets of Bolshoy, Dolgiy, Klenoviy, Khmelevoy, Tonenkiy, and Donetskiy. The church owned 36 desyatins of land, and three zemstvo and two church-parish schools operated within the parish.

With the advent of Soviet power, the church was desecrated and closed. During the Great Patriotic War, a hospital was located in its building.

In the 1990s, the Church of the Exaltation was returned to the faithful and underwent restoration. The church reopened, but recently it suffered a fire that destroyed all the interior decoration, including many ancient icons donated by local residents.
