The single-altar church is a prime example of folk wooden architecture. In its time, the Khadkevich family erected a church in honor of Saint George on the western outskirts of the settlement, and on the highest hill to the east of the castle, a church in honor of the Holy Trinity. In the 17th century, when the Khadkevich family converted to Catholicism, the Orthodox churches fell into disrepair. The next owner of Gorodishche, Troyan-Pokrovsky, built a Calvinist gathering near the ruined Trinity church, which was later converted into a church by the Marshal of Starodub, Gavriil Kerlo.

In 1764, at the initiative of the Vilnius starost Count Pац, a wooden Uniate church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross was built, which was reconstructed in a retrospective-Russian style after the Uniates converted to Orthodoxy in 1879.

The three-frame church with an elongated axial composition includes a rectangular narthex, a cubical prayer hall, and a five-sided apse. The main volume is covered with a four-pitched tent roof with a lantern, topped with an onion dome on an octagonal drum and adorned with dormer windows.

The architecture of the church is rich in decor, including a flat balustrade in the basement, cornices, ornamental panelled pilasters, and an arcature belt of the narthex. The use and creative adaptation of decor in folk wooden architecture is a characteristic feature of Belarusian building culture. The interior space of the prayer hall and apse is covered with a tent ceiling. In the narthex, there are choirs on two columns, accessed by a side two-flight staircase. The apse is separated from the prayer hall by a wooden iconostasis created in the 1870s to replace one removed in 1815. Next to the church stands a wooden bell tower built in the 1840s and covered with a tent roof.

For the 250th anniversary of the church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, a postage stamp was issued featuring one of the oldest wooden cult structures in the Republic of Belarus.
