In the book "Belgorod with the District," published in 1882, Drenyakin mentions that the Kosharskaya Church of the Exaltation of the Cross was built in 1862 thanks to the funding of Countess A.V. Lastovskaya and the Mukhanov brothers, known winemakers. However, the directory of the Kursk Spiritual Consistory from 1908 states that the year of construction was 1863.

In the "Historical Herald" of 1910, in the article "Belgorod and Its Sanctities," A. Firsov also indicates that in 1863, a church was erected in Koshary with funds from Anna Varlamovna Bogdanovich, where the cross was installed. The discrepancy in dates may be due to a typographical error, and the question of funding for the construction remains open, although it is likely that all the mentioned individuals contributed their donations.

The Church of the Exaltation of the Cross is an example of provincial architecture from the second half of the 19th century, combining elements of classicism and Russian architecture of the 17th century. The main shrine of the church is considered to be the Miraculous Cross, which was given in the first half of the 18th century by a novice of the Athos Monastery to his landowner brother Yuri Vyurudov, who ordered it to be thrown into a swamp. According to legend, the cross was found in the late 18th century, and a blind man was healed upon discovering it in the mire. In 1909, according to the directory of the Kursk Spiritual Consistory, the church was visited by 357 parishioners, and a church school operated there.

During the Soviet years, the Church of the Exaltation of the Cross was closed for a short time. Several ancient icons have been preserved in it, including the image of Archangel Michael and the icon of the Mother of God "Quick to Hear." The building is protected by the state as a monument of architecture from the eclecticism era.

The Church of the Exaltation of the Cross is part of the Belgorod-Starooskol Diocese of the Belgorod Metropolis of the Moscow Patriarchate of the Russian Orthodox Church. In August 2010, Archbishop John of Belgorod and Starooskol consecrated a chapel with a spring on the church grounds in honor of the icon of the Mother of God of Kursk Root "The Sign."
