The Church of the Resurrection of Christ in Sokolniki stands out for its uniqueness among Moscow's churches. It was built in the early 20th century based on a design by architect Pavel Tolstykh, who lived from 1878 to 1939. The architecture of the church combines elements of neo-Russian style and Art Nouveau. Of the nine domes of the church, the central one is covered in gold, while the others are black. The drums of the domes are adorned with blue Abramtsov tiles.

The idea for the construction belonged to Moscow's archpriest Ioann Kedrov, who served at the church in honor of the Mother of God "Joy of All Who Sorrow" near the Bakhrushin Hospital. Therefore, the church is sometimes referred to as Kedrov Church.

A distinctive feature of the church is that its altar part is oriented to the south, although typically the altar should face east.
