In the 1950s, a church was founded in the Balmoral area of Auckland by representatives of the first wave of Russian immigration, which included settlers from Europe and refugees from China. Now, due to the increasing number of parishioners, a project for the construction of a new church is being developed.

Russians began to build Orthodox churches only after World War II. The land for the church in the Auckland Resurrection parish was donated by Olga Tetzner, the daughter of the last royal governor of the Tver province. To be precise, she was the daughter of the would-be governor, as A.S. Tetzner's appointment coincided with the beginning of the February Revolution, and he learned about it while traveling. Instead of Tver, he went to Fiji, while his daughter Olga was studying in Auckland at that time. She purchased several plots of land in the city center and donated one of them to the Russian Orthodox Church on the condition that a church be built.

The rector of the church is Father Vladimir. He was born in Australia but has Russian roots. His grandparents emigrated from Russia first to China and then to Australia. Father Vladimir is fluent in Russian, English, and Chinese.
