In 1888, in honor of the 900th anniversary of the Baptism of Rus, Bishop Paul (Vilchinsky) of Saratov and Tsaritsyn laid the foundation for a new three-altar church in Poltavskaya Square. The church was built with donations from residents of Saratov of all classes, and the project in the neo-Russian style was developed by the chief provincial architect A. M. Salko. On November 13, 1894, the left chapel in honor of John Chrysostom was consecrated in the under-construction church. On January 21, 1896, Bishop Nikolai (Nalimonov) conducted the Great Consecration of the church in honor of Saint Prince Vladimir, and on October 6 of the same year, the right chapel in honor of the Blessed Alexius, the Man of God, was consecrated. In 1897, the church received its own parish and a clergy was established consisting of a priest and a psalmist. There was a two-story brick house next to the church, where the parish school was located on the first floor, and the rector's apartment was on the second. By 1917, the parish had 330 households, 684 men, and 736 women.

In the early 1930s, the church was completely destroyed. The square in Poltavskaya Square was improved and in 1936 it became known as the Children's Park. A small stadium was built on the site of the church. Of the entire church complex, only the church house remained, which now houses the Center for Children's and Youth Creativity. In the 1990s, a model of the church was installed in the square on 50 Years of October Street. The Mikhailo-Arkhangelsky Cathedral, built according to the same project as the Vladimir Church, has been preserved in Serdobsk.

In the early 2000s, the Saratov Diocese and the city administration agreed to build a new church in the southeastern part of the Children's Park. The community of the Knyazhe-Vladimir Church was registered on June 10, 2005. On October 23, Bishop Longin conducted the Rite of Laying the Foundation of the new church, and on November 12 of the same year, a temporary building for worship was consecrated in the park. The construction lasted four years, and on April 14, 2010, the Great Consecration of the new church took place. The new building is not a copy of the historical one; it has one altar in honor of Saint Prince Vladimir. The church houses an ancient image of the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God from the 19th century and an image of Blessed Seraphim of Sarov, painted in 1909.
