The stone temple dedicated to St. Sergius of Radonezh was originally located in the village of Sergiyevo-Polivanovo, which was situated two versts north of Bessonovka and later became part of it. The Sergius Church was built in 1761 with funds from the landowner Yegor Ilyich Martynov and had chapels in honor of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker (on the right) and St. George the Victorious (on the left). By the early 1830s, the building had significantly deteriorated, and in 1831, a plan was approved for the restoration of the refectory. In 1840, a wooden free-standing bell tower was built with funds from the landowner Savrasov. In 1857, the left chapel in honor of the holy prince Alexander Nevsky was consecrated in the refectory.

The current state of the church, which is in ruins, does not allow for a detailed architectural analysis but does permit discussion of its volumetric-spatial solution. The composition's foundation consists of a high two-light square base, to which a five-sided apse adjoins from the east, and a wider refectory from the west. The remnants of a low drum above the temple section suggest that it was once covered with a spherical dome.
