The church in honor of the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God and defenders of the Fatherland was laid in 1996 with the blessing of Metropolitan Nikolai Kutepov of Nizhny Novgorod and Arzamas, thanks to the initiative of the administration of the Soviet district. The project was developed by architect A. A. Khudin and engineer A. N. Smolin.

Residents of the Soviet district actively participated in the construction of the church, including A. D. Pronin, A. N. Tarasov, N. V. Sokolova, V. S. Zolotnitskaya, and L. T. Bochkaeva, providing charitable and organizational support.

On December 9, 2004, the church was consecrated with a minor rite, and by January 2006, its interior finishing was completed. The full consecration with a hierarchal rite took place on September 8, 2011. Currently, reconstruction is underway aimed at increasing the area of the church.

A memorial pedestal dedicated to the soldiers who died during the Chechen campaign has been installed on the church grounds.
