The Church of St. George "behind the shops" was built between 1700 and 1705 in the traditional style of "two-tiered square with a three-part apse," characteristic of Moscow Baroque from the previous century, and was topped with five domes.

In the mid-18th century, a five-tiered bell tower was constructed in Baroque style. In the early 19th century, a refectory was added to the church in classical style, uniting all three parts into one building. The uniqueness of this church lies in the fact that it was completely built in the 18th century, but in three different architectural styles, and this appearance has been preserved to this day.

The main temple of the church is a cube with five domes grouped in the center. The domes have a spherical shape, which is a very ancient element, and previously each of them was covered with scales. Next to the church are the bell tower and a chapel, which was later connected to the main building. The church houses many ancient icons, including the icon of St. George the Victorious.

In the mid-20th century, the church was closed and desecrated, and its building housed a center for folk art. In 2006, a community of the same faith was established in honor of the Resurrection of Christ, and in 2009 the building was transferred to the diocese.

From 2013 to 2016, restoration work was carried out, which affected the facades, drums, brick vaults of the square, window and door openings, canopy, and roof of the apse.
