The Church of St. George the Victorious is located in the village of Otyakovo in the Borovsky District of the Kaluga Region and was built in the second half of the 18th century. This impressive brick building in the style of provincial classicism is surrounded by a high fence and has a tall bell tower. A wide, unpaved road led to the church. Although Otyakovo was off the Kyiv highway, parishioners from nearby and even distant villages flocked to the church to participate in services.

In 1940, the church was closed. According to the memories of locals, the icons from the church were loaded onto a truck and taken to a pigsty, where they were burned. In 1941, the last local priest went to the front and did not return. The Germans, who occupied the settlement, completely devastated the building. After the war, local residents dismantled the remains of the fence for bricks to build. The windows were shattered, the altar was destroyed, and the building gradually fell into ruin.

Today, in the village of Otyakovo, there stands a newly rebuilt Church of St. George the Victorious since 2011. It has five domes, adorned with five crosses, plastered in a pastel pink color, and has a cherry-colored roof, giving it a festive and striking appearance. Next to it, at the initiative of local parishioners and with the support of an entrepreneur from the area, the restoration of the old church is underway. It is all covered in scaffolding, and work is actively ongoing. This has become possible despite the fact that the State Duma of Russia adopted a document regarding the impracticality of restoring certain religious sites in areas with small communities of believers. However, the Orthodox believers in Otyakovo have decided the fate of their church relics in their own way.
