Mount of the Overthrow, also known as the Mount of the Downfall, reaches a height of 397 meters and is located 2 km south of the modern center of Nazareth in Israel. According to Catholic tradition, this mountain is associated with the Gospel event when the Jews attempted to throw Jesus Christ off after His sermon in the Nazareth synagogue. Orthodox tradition claims that the mountain from which the Jews intended to overthrow Jesus is closer to Nazareth, about 1 km south of the Basilica of the Annunciation. This mountain has a steep cliff approximately 40 meters high. At its summit, thanks to the funds of the Penza landowner Maria Kiseleva, a church was built, consecrated in 1880 by Metropolitan Nifont of Nazareth. Over time, the church fell into disrepair but was restored in 2009. Catholics refer to it as the church of 'Our Lady in Fear,' as, according to their tradition, it was here that the Mother of God stood when the angry Jews tried to throw her Son off the cliff.
