The Holy Mother of God "Joy of All Who Sorrow" parish in Atlanta, Georgia, was founded in the 1970s when there were only a few Orthodox communities in the southern United States. Over time, the parish became a significant center for missionary activity, organizing annual Southern Missions Conferences.

Today, services are often held in Church Slavonic, and various spiritual and cultural events are organized. It hosts the only Russian-speaking anonymous program for alcoholics. The parish continues to grow, attracting new people: some visit occasionally, while many become regular attendees.

In the 2000s, the church was rebuilt. The rector, Father Evgeny Antonov, noted that along with the construction of the church, plans are underway to create the first Russian Orthodox cemetery in the state of Georgia, and possibly in the entire Southeastern region. Proceeds from the sale of plots will be directed to the New Church Construction Fund. Currently, the community is not very large: about forty people attend on Sundays, and the number of parishioners doubles on holidays.
