The Dormition of the Theotokos Church in Tare (lost)

Фото 1
The church was made of brick, single-story with an altar, and had the shape of a "ship". A refectory adjoined the high part of the church with a pentagonal apse, to which a narthex with a two-tiered octagonal tent bell tower was attached. The five domes of the church were situated on high light drums, and round domes also adorned the altar, refectory, and bell tower. Above the church rose a quadrilateral dome, above the altar a conch, and above the refectory a gable roof. An octagonal lantern with arched windows crowned the dome. The crosses on the church were gilded and eight-pointed. The church had four tiers of light, including 54 semi-circular windows, of which eight were vertically elongated lucarnes. The bell tower consisted of three tiers: the middle tier had rectangular windows, the ringing tier was octagonal with arched openings, and the high tent was topped with a round dome with a cross.

The main attraction of the Dormition Church was considered to be the ancient iconostasis with nine tiers, painted in dark crimson color and decorated with gilded Corinthian-style decor. The royal gates were carved and gilded, with oval tops. A photograph of a fragment of the iconostasis, taken in 1927, shows the royal gates made in the technique of openwork carving. In the center of the gates was a round icon of the Annunciation, flanked by four oval icons of the Evangelists. The gates were framed by Corinthian pilasters. To the left, there was no icon, revealing an arched window, while to the right was a rectangular icon of the Savior, above which was a square icon depicting a kneeling saint and an angel. The upper part of the gates had the shape of a carved "crown", and above it was a complex-shaped icon of the "Last Supper" with a carved cartouche. The icons of the third tier were rectangular and set in thin frames with lush carving in the corners, and in the lower tier, also on the sides. In front of the iconostasis was a large tiered chandelier.

In the refectory part of the church, there was a two-tiered iconostasis in its original form. The bell tower, which cracked in 1826, was dismantled in 1832 and restored in 1843 according to the project of the provincial architect at the expense of merchant Fyodor Ivanovich Pyatkov. A metal clock with an iron mechanism and hammers for striking quarters, half-hours, and hours was installed on the bell tower. In 1921, the property was nationalized. In June 1926, a commission that inspected the building concluded that it was not subject to repair and decided to demolish the cathedral. Until 1832, the church was a cathedral, then it was annexed to the Nikolsky Cathedral. The altar was consecrated in honor of St. Sergius of Radonezh the Miracle Worker.
