Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Stolovichi

Фото 1
The only church of the Knights of the Maltese Order in Belarus was built by the local landowner, Commander of the Maltese Order M. Dombrowski. The project was developed by renowned architects I. Fontana III and I. Glaubitz, and it was originally conceived as the Church of St. John the Baptist.

In 1610, at the order of M. Radziwill the Orphan, a wooden church dedicated to St. Mary and St. John the Baptist was erected for his son Zygmunt Karol. It was intended for the knights of the Maltese Order and housed a sculpture of the Virgin Mary brought from Italy. In 1740 and 1746, a chapel built in 1639 was incorporated into the interior of the church as a presbytery.

In the 1830s and at the end of the 1990s, the church was transferred to the Orthodox Church.
