The Dormition of the Theotokos Church in the village of Sokolovka is one of the oldest wooden churches preserved in the Belgorod Metropolis and is recognized as an architectural monument.

Built in 1769, this wooden church became one of the oldest in the Belgorod region. During the Soviet era, the church was closed, but it was reopened during the Great Patriotic War.

On July 2, 1991, the parish in Sokolovka was re-registered, and the church underwent reconstruction. The restored church was consecrated by Metropolitan John of Belgorod and Stary Oskol on October 13, 2012.

The church is notable for the fact that on October 26, 1960, Bishop Leonid of Kursk and Belgorod tonsured Priest Dmitry Tyapochkin into monasticism, giving him the name Seraphim.

Father Valery Boyarintsev recalls: Bishop Leonid (Polyakov) invited him to serve in the Kursk-Belgorod Diocese. The priest went to the Belgorod region, to the village of Sokolovka in the Korochansky district, to the Dormition of the Theotokos Church, located about thirty kilometers from Belgorod. There I visited him as a pilgrim and spent two to three weeks communicating with him. The village had a large wooden Dormition church, and I restored the iconostasis. Father Dmitry was glad that we managed to do it by the Feast of the Transfiguration. There were few worshippers, as in those years not many dared to visit the church. However, Father Dmitry's services were remarkably gracious. He started at 6 a.m. and finished at 2 p.m., taking his time and performing everything carefully.

From October 14, 1961, until the end of his life, Father Seraphim served as the rector of the Holy Nicholas Church in the village of Rakitnoye, Belgorod region. He passed away on April 19, 1982, and was buried at the altar wall of the Holy Nicholas Church in the settlement of Rakitnoye.
