According to the document "Reports on the Dormition Church, located in the Oboyansk district of the Kursk diocese in the village of Medvenka from 1916," which is kept in the regional archive of Kursk, the church was built in 1823 with funds from parishioners. This stone building with a bell tower connected to the church is sturdy and covered with iron. The church has three altars: the central one is dedicated to the Dormition of the Mother of God, the northern one to Saint Nicholas, and the southern one to the icon of the Mother of God "Kazan."

The church's land holdings include estate land with a churchyard of 2 dessiatines, arable land of 33 dessiatines, and haymaking land of 14 dessiatines, divided between the clergy and the church, located 7 versts from the church. These lands are in undisputed possession of the clergy and the church, and there is a special plan for them, which is kept in the church archive.

In 1945-1946, in the village of Medvenka on Proletarskaya Street, the state took control of a private house belonging to a person who collaborated with the fascists. According to the memories of the locals, there were no heirs for the house, and from 1947 it was twice transferred to either the archive or the Russian Orthodox Church as a prayer house.

In 1989, the house was finally transferred to the Russian Orthodox Church, and from that time the construction of a new Dormition of the Mother of God Church began. The church was built by the community, and it was completed in 1990. In September 1994, the church was consecrated by Metropolitan Juvenaly (Tarasov) of Kursk and Rylsk, and it is still in operation today.
